Japan yakisugi
Produced in a specialized sawmill close to Hiroshima, this wood treated in the Yakisugi method of preservation embodies the essence and expertise of Japanese design: simplicity and quality.
This traditional method of charring the surface of “sugi,” or cedar wood, has been commonplace in Japan since the 1700s. “Yaki”— to heat with fire — not only beautifies the wood, but improves outdoor performance by adding water resistance, preventing decay and repelling insects. Japan Yakisugi authentically produces this durable and stable cladding in a variety of compelling colorways, available exclusively at our studio.
